Nylon ropes and cords
Features, Benefits and Applications
What is Nylon Rope?
Nylon rope, also known as polyamide rope, is a synthetic rope made from strong nylon fibers. It is known for its high tensile strength, elasticity en sustainability, making it a popular choice for marine, industrial, and outdoor applications. Nylon rope is available in twisted and braided versions and in various diameters.
Benefits of Nylon Rope
- High tensile strength: Ideal for heavy loads.
- Shock absorption: Perfect for applications involving sudden forces (e.g. mooring lines).
- Wear-resistant: Resistant to friction and intensive use.
- Weatherproof: Rot-free and highly moisture resistant.
- Versatile: Suitable for maritime, lifting and outdoor use
Disadvantages of Nylon Rope
- Water absorption: Loses 10-15% of breaking strength when wet.
- Gets harder over time: Less flexible with prolonged use.
- Sensitive to high temperatures: Melting point 210 °C, so not suitable for extreme heat.
Applications of Nylon Rope
- Shipping: Mooring lines, anchor lines.
- Industry: Hoisting and lifting applications.
- Outdoors: Climbing ropes, survival, camping.
- Transport: Securing of loads.
- Rescue operations: Rescue ropes and tow cables.
