Hemp rope was always used in the shipping industry. In the yachting industry it is still used for the rigging of classic ships. The VOC-replica 'Duyfken' is for example rigged with hemp rope. The 'Duyfken' sailed in 2002 from Australia to the Netherlands, 18.200 nautical miles with Langman Ropes hemp.
